3OTH SOUTHEAST ASIAN GAMES 2019

Reaching at the top as the most Gold medals gained with 14 Gold, 4 Silver and 2 Bronze, Arnis made a name for itself after 14 years of absence in the same International event who tied with Vietnam bagging 3 Golds and 3 Silvers (2005 SEA Games).

Now, this year 2019, new challenge arises, wherein participating countries such as Myanmar and returning countries like Cambodia and Vietnam took interest facing against each other grabbing an opportunity to bring home the Gold medal for their country.

Arnis was held at Angeles University Foundation gymnasium on 1st to 3rd day of December, 2019 right after the opening of South East Asian Games on November 30, 2019 at Philippine Arena.

The first SEA Games that Arnis was played was held way back 14 years ago in the year 2005, hosted by the Philippines which both Philippines and Vietnam tied at the same number of Golds and Silvers at three (3).

But this year, after making a return to introduce the Philippine National Sport, Arnis would like to make a name for itself and hoping to be reintroduced in 2021 South East Asian Games hosted next by Vietnam and 2023 South East Asian Games hosted by Cambodia.

The Philippine Team contributed 5 Gold Medals in the first day of the tournament on the Live Stick Event in Men's Division starting of with Dexler Bolambao (Bantamweight), Niño Mark Telledo (Featherweight), Villardo Cunamay (Lightweight) and Mike Bañares (Welterweight). The next gold medalist from Women's Division came from Jezebel Morcillo (Bantam Weight), as Jude Oliver Rodriguez (Featherweight) grabs silver medal, while both Eza Rai Yalong (Lightweight) and Erlin Mae Busacay (Welterweight) contributes to bronze medal. This leads to the medal tally of

5-1-2 for the Philippines, 3-3-2 for team Vietnam, 0-2-6 for both Cambodia and Myanmar.

Padded Stick Event is held in the next day wherein Jesper Huquire (Bantam Weight), Elmer Manlapas (Featherweight), Carloyd Tejada (Walterweight) from the Men's Division and a sweep in the Women's Division from Sheena Del Monte (Bantamweight), Jedah Mae Soriano (Featherweight), Ross Ashley Moville (Lightweight) and lastly, Abegail Abad (Welterweight) who brought glory to the country by bringing home 7 gold medals, while Billy Joel Valenzuela (Lightweight) got silver medal. In total for the medal tally, the Philippines still leads to the top having 12 golds, 2 silvers and 2 bronze medals. Vietnam sits on second who added 5 silvers and 2 bronze with its total, 3-8-5. For Cambodia, Yong Mengly made his name for bringing home their first gold medal for his country. Thus, sitting at a third place with a total of 1-2-13. Finally, Myanmar added 2 silvers and 6 bronze still catching up and getting their first gold medal.

December 3, 2019, where Anyo Event was held. That will be the last day of the game. Anyo or Forms in english was divided into 2 categories and that is the Traditional and Non-Traditional Anyo Event. Mark David Puzon and Ryssa Jezzel Sanchez, both joined the Non-Traditional Anyo Event brought home the silver medals, in which team Vietnam added one more gold totaling to 4, and Myanmar representative, Eian Dray Phoo had won gold medal bringing honor to their country. Mary Allin Aldeguer shed her tears as she believed that she would lose due to a minor error she made, yet somewhat given a highest score from judges honoring her to recieve a gold medal. And lastly, a known model Crisamuel Delfin brought pide not just for the country, but also for his lineage. Before the event, he was stopped by an international technical officials alongside with few board members to wear his traditional attire which is the "BAHAG" which he wanted to express himself as a proud "IGOROT" into the court, due to the reason of having a "wardrobe malfunction" in which they insist him to change outfit or wear a brief.

Delfin almost got disqualified from the request of Philippine Team Head Coach as wearing of Bahag is the pride and soul of an Igorot and (Delfin) he wanted to represent himself on where he came from. It was halted by PEKAF President Senator Juan Miguel Zubiri that Delfin had a potential and suggested to use a thong instead wherein both sides agreed.

"(Delfin) didn't want because he said as an Igorot, it is an insult to wear a brief or something under [the bahag]," Zubiri added.

Thus, this motivates Delfin more and gave all he got at his performance leading him to bring home the gold and became a role model to fight for his right to wear a traditional Bahag.

This concludes that Philippines brought home 14 golds, 2 silvers and 2 bronze.
